Hey everyone, today I’m going to share six simple ways to help overcome obstacles to your creativity.
You can literally start putting these into action today on your own, or with your creative community.
Trust in God's plan and timing: God has a purpose for your creativity. His timing is perfect and He will use the challenges you're facing to refine your character and prepare you for future opportunities.
David, before becoming the King of Israel, was anointed by Samuel and had to face numerous obstacles, including being pursued by King Saul. During this time, David composed many of the Psalms, expressing his trust in God and demonstrating creativity even in difficult circumstances. Through these trials, David's faith and character were refined, preparing him for his future role as king. "Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" (Ps. 27:14)Seek inspiration from Scripture: His Word is the lamp unto our feet and the light that leads us. He is the one who gives inspiration, guidance, and encouragement.
Bezalel, a skilled craftsman, was chosen by God to create the Tabernacle and its furnishings. He was filled with the Spirit of God and given wisdom, understanding, and knowledge in all kinds of craftsmanship. "And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft." (Ex. 31:3-5)Embrace the creative process as an opportunity for spiritual growth: View your creative journey as a way to deepen your relationship with God. Recognize that the challenges you face are opportunities to grow in faith, perseverance, and reliance on Him.
Paul the Apostle faced numerous trials and hardships during his ministry, yet he continued to creatively spread the Gospel and write letters to the early churches. In his challenges, Paul learned to rely on God's strength and grace, which allowed him to persevere and make a lasting impact. "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Cor. 12:9)Pray for guidance, wisdom, and creativity: Regularly pray for God's guidance, wisdom, and an outpouring of His creativity in your life. Ask Him to help you overcome obstacles and use your talents to glorify Him.
Solomon, when he became king, asked God for wisdom to govern His people. God granted his request, and Solomon's wisdom grew exponentially. With this wisdom, Solomon composed many proverbs, and songs, and even designed the Temple in Jerusalem. "And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt." (1 Kings 4:29-30)Consistently create in a community: Gather together on a regular basis with other creatives to have community, share joys, victories, trials, and struggles.
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens the face his neighbor." Proverbs 27:17
